In the heart of a reimagined cereal factory, light becomes the spark that transforms play into possibility—illuminating seven immersive exhibits where curiosity climbs, creativity flows, and childhood memories are made. The London Children’s Museum Lighting is playful yet effective, bringing childlike wonder to an enriching environment where learning happens through play.

Our museum team at Gabriel Mackinnon was pleased to complete the lighting design for the London Children’s Museum this year! This brand new facility in a renovated Kellogg’s factory in London Ontario was a group effort with our friends at Reich and Petch and the fine folks at Skolnick Architecture. The design features a series of immersive play environments, with streetscapes, stores, space, forests, and caves.

At the London Children’s museum lighting plays a key role in supporting these spaces. We used several layers of lighting equipment:

  • a framework of house lighting provides baseline lighting
  • museum grade track lighting illuminates word and graphic panels and features key elements
  • a family of playful custom lighting including Lego sconces, cup and saucer pendants, and wastebasket lights brings childlike personality to each space

The new London Children’s Museum is a bright, welcoming space designed to engage kids of all ages. Since opening, attendance has exceeded expectations—attracting over 50,000 visitors in the first three months. Thoughtfully integrated lighting plays a key role in shaping the experience, enhancing each exhibit’s atmosphere and supporting playful, hands-on exploration.

The London Children’s Museum lighting is the latest in a long series of successful collaborations with our friends at Reich and Petch – we love working with repeat customers as we really learn how to best complement each other.  Reach out to us to discuss your museum exhibit! Our museum team had decades of experience both in designing new lighting systems for new exhibits, and for making optimal use of your stock of existing lighting equipment to tell the story of your exhibit. We’d love to help tell your story!
