Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge
Gabriel Mackinnon provided lighting design for the Air Canada Maple Leaf lounge at Pearson Airport in Toronto; the project was completed in 2007, but we just came across the photos now – surprise!
For this project, George Nelson bubble lamps were modified to a post mount to give a human scale to the lofty space; this also allows the tenant to provide ambient lighting throughout the space without access to the ceiling.
Warm wood planes and a perforated back lit map detail add interest, while many millwork details have light cleverly incorporated, including behind the bar and in cozy seating areas. Washrooms feature flattering backlit mirror lighting. Many well considered touches work together to provide a calm sanctuary for travelers.
